Get Ready For A "Polar Coaster"

With a few weeks of warm weather still ahead of us, the last thing anyone wants to think about is the cold, but it seems we'd better start bracing ourselves for the winter months.

The 2020 Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a “Polar Coaster Winter," with the upcoming season described as “freezing, frigid and frosty,” particularly east of the Rockies all the way to the Appalachians.

When we can expect the cold? The most frigid outbreaks are predicted to be in January in the Northern Plains, where temps can drop to negative-40 and into the Great Lakes. And there will definitely be lots of snow, with above normal precipitation expected in the eastern third of the country.

Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas

The Farmers’ Almanac believes Halloween and Thanksgiving might be “kind of stormy.” As for Christmas, expect it to be wet.

Snowstorms

The Farmers’ Almanac is red-flagging Jan. 4-7 and Jan. 12-15 for precipitation. For the end of January into February, the almanac is predicting an arctic blast.
