NEW $100 BILL DEBUTING NEXT MONTH
After years of production delays, new $100 bills with high-tech features to prevent counterfeiting are debuting next month, set to go into circulation on October 8th. The new $100 bill still bears the image of Benjamin Franklin, but it adds part of the Declaration of Independence, written in script from Franklin's left shoulder to the right edge of the bill. A writing quill and ink well are printed behind text, with the ink in the well changing colors from copper to green when the bill is turned. A 3-D blue security ribbon goes down near the center of the bill, and a watermark of Franklin appears on the right side of the bill when it's held up to light. The $5, $10, $20 and $50 bills have all be redesigned during the last decade to add security features, with the $1 bill the only one that hasn't gotten a new look.
